Physicalism and Consciousness

Does consciousness really possess qualities that are something extra to the laws of physics? Or that consciousness is a mere epiphenomenon? Or that the human brain is incapable of explaining consciousness?At the moment we do not have a complete refutation of these hypotheses as many authors are keen to remind us.Thus the hypothesis that consciousness is linked to brain function and obeys the laws of physics is just that; a hypothesis.But this specter should not intimidate us. After all science is made up of hypotheses not immutable truths.It is based on this kind of approach that this book will be written. The hypothesis that monistic materialism is still the best hypothesis to approach the subject of consciousness will be advanced.By gathering as much consensus as possible and investigating which are the weakest parts of materialism not accepting a simplistic reductionism we hope to convince those interested in this area of our hypothesis.
