English

About The Book

The Tsuba collection of the Saint Louis Art Museum comprises well over three hundred and fifty tsuba it is divided into three sections determined by their acquisition. The first collection consists of twenty-four pieces from the Mrs. William J. Powell bequest. The second collection includes twenty-one pieces purchased by the museum itself. Whilst the third makes up the bulk of the collection having come to the museum in two lots from the bequest of John M. Wulfing through his wife and later his daughter Mrs. Eugene Tavenner. Descriptions are very brief due to space and as the title of this book would suggest - this is for the most part a visual catalogue of the museum's tsuba collection and should not be seen as any scholarly treatise.
