Recognising the need for a convenient edition of Gngora for English readers and students Dr J. W. Barker has here prepared a selection which in addition to showing Gngora''s versatility and proneness to experiment in verse forms makes available a number of poems to be read with delight for their music beauty and simple yet artificial charm. The poems are dated and chronologically arranged to enable the critical reader to assess the worth of Gngora''s poetry and to judge independently the emergence and development of the style called gongorismo. This collection was first published in 1942.
