Poetics of Resistance in Afua Cooper's and Alzira Rufino's Poetry

About The Book

Black women in Canada and Brazil are the basis of society which means that they are payed lower incomes and suffer from different forms of prejudice in society. Jamaican-born living in Canada for many years Afua Cooper and Brazilian Alzira Rufino are two women whose activism put in discussion ideas that support those discourses. In my work I point out the turning point attitude as fundamental for those cultural practices to be reviewed. With turning point I mean the decision a woman makes to change the course of her life after reflecting on it. Many woman reflect on their condition but not so many have the courage to make the change.
