This study analyzes the preparedness of Ecuadorian police personnel to respond to cybercrime in a context of increasing cybercrime in the country. A quantitative methodology was used with surveys applied to police officers in Planning Zone No. 1 addressing their previous experience levels of individual and organizational confidence and perceptions of needed improvements. The results show little training in cybercrime and low preparedness among first responders. Obstacles are identified as lack of infrastructure technical training and clear protocols. It is concluded that there is an urgent need to strengthen individual and institutional capacities to deal effectively with cybercrime improve training processes and develop a cybersecurity policy articulated among institutions.
