Political awareness and commitment

Political commitment and political awareness are fundamental to the functioning of modern democratic societies. They reflect the way in which citizens perceive understand and participate in public affairs. Political involvement refers to all actions taken by an individual or group to influence or participate in political life. This may involve voting joining a party demonstrating signing petitions or expressing oneself on social issues through social networks or community actions. Political awareness on the other hand refers to an individual's capacity to understand political mechanisms to perceive social and economic issues and to form a critical judgment on the political decisions that influence his or her life and that of society as a whole.In contemporary societies political involvement is undergoing a profound transformation. While traditional forms such as voting or joining a political party remain they are tending to lose ground particularly among younger generations.
