For preliminary and main examinations conducted by Union and State Public Service Commission The present book is an attempt to present the general history of India under the history of pre-medieval India in ten subject-wise chapters. It is more focused on the Indian people than on the colonial state or the people who ruled India. It exposes the thinking of the ruled people their cultural crises and social changes their rebellion their search for an identity and attempts to reconcile them with the modernity that has reached them through a variety of colonial policies. Above all it tells the story of how the Indian nation with all its contradictions and tensions was born in the hegemonic presence of Western imperialism.I am making a small effort that this book will prove to be a milestone for the preliminary and main and competitive examinations conducted by the Union and State Public Service Commission.
