From Revolution to Tragedy: The Evolution of SPLM from 1983 to 2016

About The Book

Resistance and liberation movements have become a defining feature of contemporary political conflicts in Africa. However most of them have failed in the process of reaching political settlements and active involvement and cooperative engagements. Recently South Sudan declared its independence at the time when the country was experiencing a depression accompanied by economic slump. Thus the efforts of nationalists and foreign development enthusiasts produced little pockets of true integrity thus making the country somewhat stagnant in all fields of progress and the public expectations of the new era of change. This work therefore is an attempt to recount these failures and to assess the manner in which National Liberation Movements responded to these social and national questions upon assuming political power. On the other hand this work is prompted by the desire of understanding how and why many national liberation movements fail as governments in responding to the challenges of liberation once in power.
