Pollution: Causes Effects and Abatement

<p>Pollution presently poses the gravest danger to the very existence of life on Earth. In these intensely anthropogenic times the continuous pumping of toxic gases and chemical effluents has exceeded the Earth's threshold limits and now threaten entire ecosystems across the globe. Every year approximately ten million people die worldwide due to pollution related causes. In India air pollution results in 1.7 million deaths every year. The vulnerable and marginal sections of the society are more at risk. Widespread pollution of the air water bodies soil and the related diseases caused by the pollutants are a matter of global concern. Moreover disturbances due to noise and peril of radioactive wastes are increasing day by day. Against this critical backdrop we have to act fast to mitigate the problem before it is too late. Policies and standards have been put into practice to regulate the ever increasing load of pollutants. Sustained efforts are needed to control the menace of pollution so that future generations can inherit a habitable and hospitable planet.</p>
