Polycystic ovary syndrome and excess weight what are the risks?

About The Book

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and overweight are associated with metabolic abnormalities and high cardiovascular risk. Our objective was to analyze the metabolic inflammatory and cardiovascular risk profiles of women with an association of these 2 entities. A total of 85 women were divided into 4 groups according to the presence or absence of PCOS and/or excess weight. Hyperlipidemia was significantly more frequent in the 2 overweight groups with higher insulin resistance and subclinical inflammation. The PCOS-overweight association appears to be at greater cardiovascular risk than the other groups. In overweight patients with PCOS there would be an accumulation of the classic abnormalities associated with PCOS and others related to the excess weight.
