Porzia

The story centers on Porzia as a strong intelligent and deeply conflicted woman. While she is admired for her wisdom and beauty she is also troubled by her role in the world and the constraints placed on her by society. Portia's life is complicated by the expectations of her marriage to Bassanio whose actions and desires often challenge her. The play brings to the forefront the emotional intensity of her inner conflicts especially her loyalty to her husband and her desire for independence.
