POVERTY AND RURAL POVERTY IN THE EUROPEAN UNION AND LATIN AMERICA

he main objective of this text is to systematise and present concepts related to poverty and indicators of this social phenomenon using empirical evidence from Brazil (Latin America) and Portugal (European Union) as references. Concepts that bring in their essence elements that promote social disadvantages especially social exclusion and marginalisation will also be discussed. Even considering the different perspectives on poverty throughout the text a proposal for approaching this concept will be presented for the understanding of specific realities either in Brazil or in Portugal.
