About The Book

Art is an indisputably powerful medium of communication transcending linguistic and cultural barriers. This study delves into the potential of art diplomacy to reshape perceptions of nations and foster cross-cultural understanding. Drawing upon Pierre Bourdieu's Art Theory (1989) which includes concepts of symbolic capital habitus practice and field the research investigates the impact of an oil painting exhibition curated by an artist-diplomat on perceptions of Türkiye within Norway's multicultural context. As a form of soft power art diplomacy plays a pivotal role in international relations by facilitating cultural exchange and dialogue among nations. The study focuses on how the exhibition showcasing Turkish culture influences perceptions and attitudes towards Türkiye. Utilizing pre-and post-exhibition surveys data is collected to assess shifts in participants' judgments emotions and knowledge. This research highlights the transformative potential of art diplomacy in generating mutual understanding and appreciation between cultures.
