About the Book: Prathmiki” is an impartial contemporary study of two decades (1944–1964) of movements and trends in Hindi literature complemented by another work “Aaj Tak Ki”. This book does not provide a chronological history of Hindi literature from those years nor does it include references to all writers. It is neither a collection of critiques nor a compilation of book introductions. The author neither evaluates literature with any prejudice nor takes a stand in favour of any individual. Far from being a mere hobby of an officer in the Indian Police Service this book reflects the author’s deep abiding faith in Hindi India’s national as well as official language. Now reprinted after 6 decades this edition pays humble tribute to the author’s extraordinary life and work. About the Author: Badri Narain Sinha affectionately known as “Badri Babu” was born on April 4 1930 in Sarmohanpur village Darbhanga district Bihar into a simple farming family. Through determination hard work and remarkable talent he earned postgraduate degree in English Literature from Patna University at the young age of 19. Just three years later in 1952 he succeeded in the qualifying examination of UPSC in the first attempt and got selected for the Indian Police Service (IPS) in Bihar cadre. During his career as an efficient administrator he laid the foundation for a citizen-friendly police system. A prolific writer poet and secular thinker his multifaceted life and works were deeply influenced by Mahatma Gandhi''s moral teachings which formed an inspirational backdrop to his personality and achievements. Tragically he passed away on November 8 1979 before completing his half-century. However Vikramshila College which he established in Kahalgaon Bhagalpur district not only celebrated its golden jubilee but continues to produce countless graduates who will keep alive the memory of Badri Babu’s unwavering commitment to public service and education for coming generations.
