Pre-Augustan coins from Cavaillon's Saint-Jacques hill

About The Book

This study of 764 coins found on the Saint-Jacques hill in Cavaillon (Vaucluse France) brings together the collection of the Musée de la Ville and a private collection previously published separately. Together they provide a good overview of monetary circulation on the Cavaillon oppidum of Cabellio in pre-Augustan times. As at other sites in the Lower Rhône Valley circulation was dominated by Massaliète coins accompanied by coins from Nîmes and the Arécomiques as well as coins from the cavares of Avenio and Cabellio. A few foreign coins from the Rhone valley and inner Gaul and a very rare coin from Phocaea complete the collection.
