Prenatal care has been described as the perfect example of preventive care. The term as used by physicians and nurses refers to the planned examination guidance and possibly treatment of an expectant mother. The provision of prenatal care is probably the essential factor in the improvement of maternal morbidity and mortality statistics all over the world. Inadequate prenatal care may be responsible for potential pregnancy or birth complications that can have long- term physical and social consequences for mother infants and families. It may also affect early- parent child interaction. Inadequate and late utilization of prenatal care services has been associated with poor pregnancy outcome. Few studies have been done in Egypt to document the impact of antenatal care on pregnancy outcome. Therefore the purpose of this study was to examine the difference in outcome between two groups of mothers one of whom received enhanced prenatal care intervention and the other received standard prenatal care. Since infant and maternal mortality rates are still high and there is currently a discrepancy in care provided in public hospitals and private hospital.
