This book deals with strategies for the prevention of aggression and violence in the field of professional care. Reference is made both to the complex interaction between carers and patients and to the important role of the respective institution. Measures within this triadic network of relationships are basically possible on three levels: primary prevention includes all measures to avoid potential or imminent aggression. Secondly the concept of secondary prevention subsumes all strategies for interrupting or ending a current violent incident including any coercive measures. Finally the category of tertiary prevention includes measures for the aftercare of all persons involved debriefing with those affected and in the interdisciplinary team as well as detailed documentation that enables an assessment of the current safety culture.
