About The Book

‘Pride and Prejudice’ was authored by Jane Austen. She began to write while in her teens and completed the original manuscript of ‘Pride and Prejudice’ titled ‘First Impressions’ between 1796 and 1797. However it was published in January 1813 two years after ‘Sense and Sensibility’ her first novel and it achieved significant popularity. Austen targets the socially segregated prejudices. She stresses upon the fact that women could only accomplish respect and wealth through a successful marriage which explains the primary purpose of matrimony as a goal and topic of conversation in her writing. This comedy of manners correctly begins by saying “It is a truth universally acknowledged that a single man in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a wife.” Renowned literary critic and historian George Saintsbury in 1894 declared it the “most perfect the most characteristic the most eminently quintessential of its author’s works.” It was surely irresistibly flawless and conveys absolutely precise description of Love Reputation and Class.
