Professionals need to be very knowledgeable to avoid or minimize legal risk. They must work in the interest of the public; act with integrity; avoid conflicts of interest; be objective; respect client confidentiality; and also build professional competences. Universal ethical principles that apply across all professions include honesty trustworthiness loyalty respect for others adherence to the law doing good avoiding harm to others and ensuring accountability. Professional ethics do encompass the personal and corporate standards of behavior expected of professionals. The writer is of the opinion that individuals companies and corporations should endeavor to incorporate ethics into their daily actions especially those decisions that affect other people and the community in which they exist – for the well-being of all.
