About The Book

Proofs of a Conspiracy John Robison presents a conspiracy theory concerning secret societies particularly the Freemasons and the Illuminati which were prominent in Europe during the late 18th century. Robison alleges that these secret societies were engaged in clandestine activities with the goal of subverting existing religious and political institutions. The book became popular during a time of social and political upheaval in Europe particularly in the aftermath of the French Revolution. Robisons work fed into fears and anxieties about revolutionary movements secret societies and the potential for widespread disruption and instability. One of the central claims made by Robison in the book is that the Illuminati a historical secret society founded in Bavaria in the late 18th century had infiltrated Freemasonry and other societies with the aim of undermining monarchies and promoting radical ideas. Robison suggests that these secret societies were plotting to establish a new world order based on their own principles which he saw as a threat to established authorities.
