Description

If we have devotion to the name/form of a single deva the moment another name/ form creeps into our mind we feel disturbed. We learn verses related to that Deva keep photos and statues of that Deva the mere thought of another Deva can make us angry The Bhakti mentioned here in this verse is not devotion to any name or form. Here we have to be a spiritual aspirant. We have to understand the verses deeply. This classification of Bhakti is called Para Bhakti and Apara Bhakti. Aparabhakti is devotion to a personal God. Parabhakti is devotion to Parabhrahma. Parabhrahma and Paramatma are the same. Paramatma is not separate from each of us. Paramatma is Svasvaroopa one’s own essential nature. Devotion to Paramatma is Parabhakti. Here the devotee transcends all forms of ritualistic worship. This leads to knowledge of one’s own essential nature. One gets firmly established in one’s own essential nature. Here we have to fix our mind on the supreme reality and be established in one’s self. This is possible only by continuous meditation on the paramatma which is our own Atma.
