Quality of life for Cameroonian prisoners

About The Book

In Cameroon the prison population is estimated at around 30000 inmates for a capacity of 9000 i.e. an occupancy rate of 432%. Faced with this overcrowding prison conditions are becoming inhumane and responsible for a deterioration in inmates' quality of life. Indeed people in detention face a brutal rupture with their support networks. This isolation disrupts family dynamics and generates stress and anxiety. To minimize suicide stress and anxiety among detainees we need to establish a climate of good relations and maintain family ties. Psychosocial support is therefore an essential variable in improving inmates' quality of life.
