About The Book

According to ANVISA RDC 306/04 and CONAMA Resolution 358/2005 all services related to human or animal health care including home care services and field work are defined as generating Health Service Waste (HSW). The research analyses waste management in a philanthropic institution located in the city of Adamantina - SP which has a hospitalisation capacity of 120 beds. The aim of the research was to quantify and classify the waste generated in the healthcare establishment. The methodology is based on quantitative analysis with the collaboration of the institution's Hygiene and Aesthetics Service (SHE). It was possible to quantify the waste in litres per day and classify it in accordance with Appendix I of ANVISA Resolution RDC 306/2004 and Annex I of CONAMA Resolution 358/2005 and the authors observed irregularities in the management (segregation and packaging internal collection and transport storage and external collection) of the waste by the professionals.
