Racial Injustice in Alan Paton���s Cry the Beloved Country

The Blacks of South Africa had been living under racial segregation for many years. They were socio-politically exploited due to their race. Through the Cry the Beloved Country this research aims at analyzing racial segregation which had been inflicted on Blacks in South Africa during the Apartheid era as reflected by Alan Paton’s Cry the Beloved Country. The work reveals the racial policies that discriminated the Blacks of South Africa. It also tackles the impacts of this racial injustice both on the black and white communities. The novel Cry the Beloved Country portrays the problems that South African people especially Blacks suffered during the white domination. With Historicism theoretical framework this study examines the various strategies employed by the Blacks to overcome the oppressive system that was applied by Whites in South Africa from 1948 to 1994. Thus the racist injustice inflicted on the Blacks of South Africa during the apartheid did not only affect them negatively but also united them to fight against the oppression. This work concludes that although the South African blacks were oppressed they tempted to fight for their rights.
