About The Book

Currently the scarcity of drinking water is taking on alarming proportions. Therefore water must be used and handled rationally. Rainwater harvesting has thus emerged as a water management tool. This study aims to analyse the use of rainwater in the residence of the Cuiarana Experimental Site. As a result a rainwater harvesting and treatment system was implemented to provide the family with an alternative to the problems of supplying good quality water. The project is located on the Cuiarana experimental site in the municipality of Salinópolis in the north-eastern region of the state of Pará. Concerns about the cost and implementation of the project were important in drawing up the project as the study aimed to develop a social technology with a low cost compared to other systems. The search for and implementation of sustainable practices in the Amazon region and their expansion through social technologies such as the one presented here aim to provide a better quality of life for communities that lack a drinking water supply.
