The reported potential biological activities of several benzimidazole derivatives have stimulated Scientists to develop the chemistry of this class of compounds as useful precursors and important versatile reagent for the synthesis of many biologically interesting heterocycles containing five six and polyfunctionalized ones containing benzimidazole scaffold from readily obtainable inexpensive starting materials.
