About The Book

The current Burundian society does not display the ethnic problem but it remains the sensitive cord on which some people pull to access or maintain their interests. Ethnicity in Burundi did not begin with colonization which was based on an already existing discriminatory clan system. In fact certain social categories such as the Twa ethnic group and the Hima clan were discriminated against. During the post-colonial period the Hima clan overthrew the monarchy and in turn applied discrimination for 40 years which led to fratricidal massacres. Where do we stand? What are the solutions for a true reconciliation and for the construction of a true Burundian nation?
