A survey in chronological order of all battles actions engagements etc. published by the Battles Nomenclature Committee in 1921 showing which formations took part down to brigade level. An index of place names and one of formations makes it a simple matter to look up any engagement for details of participants; or any formation to discover which battles it fought in throughout the Great War. Extensive footnotes supplement the text and there is a most useful table showing each divisions period of service on the Western Front. A unique work of reference by an author whose later work British Infantry Regiments 1914-1918 written when he was a Brigadier is widely known.
