Recurrent aphthous ulcer (RAU) is the one of most common inflammatory ulcerative condition of the oral mucosa. The word aphthous has been derived from a Greek word aphtha which means ulceration. The worldwide prevalence of oral ulcer is 4% out of which 25% are aphthous ulcer thus becoming the most oral ulcer. It usually affects the nonkeratinized or poorly keratinized surfaces of the oral mucosa such as labial and buccal mucosa maxillary and mandibular sulcus free gingiva soft palate floor of mouth and ventral surface of the tongue. They are usually painful shallow round ulcers with an erythematous halo.
