Serving respectively as a member of the Commandos the Royal Navy Coastal Forces an engineering student and an RAF fighter pilot their individual experiences of the war in Europe between 1940 and 1945 is viscerally described. As death is measured in millions the war consumes their youth extracting a price they will endure for the remainder of their lives.</p><p><br></p><p>To us the outcome of the Second World War is history: to them it was not.</p>
