The book presents the development of UWB Impulse Radio (IR) direction finding (DF) system using a reduced complexity receiver structure. Firstly it discusses the DF receiver design using digital channelization architecture where the use of Nyquist rate sampling is no longer required. In a multipath environment this approach requires a multipath suppression technique. Due to the low complexity constraint a simple analog level threshold detector (LTD) is introduced. An alternative means for DF is using a simple analog differentiator with a peak-and-hold detector. This approach is motivated by the observation of a staircase-shape waveform whose slope indicates the direction of arrival (DOA). This book also discusses a time-delay-based DF system which estimates the time delay at each channel of the array. Lastly the discussion extends the DF problem from single source to multiple sources transmission using Time Hopping Multiple Access scheme. This book provides an extensive overview of the solutions available for UWB-IR DF systems and the challenges lie ahead for improving the solutions.
