Religion

About The Book

ReligionBy Arthur SchopenhauerTranslated by T. Bailey SaundersArthur Schopenhauer a German philosopher viewed religion as a necessary construct for the masses offering moral guidance and providing answers to life''s existential mysteries. According to Schopenhauer religion serves as a tool to bridge the gap between human intellect and the harsh realities of existence functioning as a psychological comfort in the face of suffering and death. He believed that while religion offers valuable ethical teachings it often relies on mythology and dogma which can conflict with rational thought and philosophical inquiry. Schopenhauer in his characteristic pessimism saw religion as a means to control humanity''s base instincts but ultimately it failed to provide true enlightenment. For him philosophy rather than religion was the path to a deeper understanding of life.
