Being a gifted master of pros and having been a central committee member of HSRA thus having rubbed his shoulders with these martyrs makes these pen portraits a compulsive reading particularly since the writer opted to portray them as plain humans rather than 'heroes' so that the reader could casually relate to them as his fellow human beings, with whom he could 'feel at home'. Being a translation from Shiv Verma's impeccable Hindi certainly denies to the readers the pristine flavour of the original, notwithstanding all the modest attempt of the translator-editor to be faithful to the original.
