About The Book

Set in the rural Missouri town of the title In Mizzoura explores the clash between tradition and progress in a small close-knit community. The play begins with the return of Willard Curtis a young man who left his hometown to seek success in the city. Upon his return he finds his childhood sweetheart Laura now married to a local farmer and the town grappling with modern changes that threaten its traditional ways of life. As Willard navigates his feelings for Laura and his discomfort with the evolving town the play introduces other characters such as the determined town doctor and a cynical change-resistant elder who embody the tensions between the old and new ways of life. Through the interactions of these characters the play presents themes of ambition loyalty love and the inevitability of change.
