Reproductive Biology of Ornamental Fish Hemichromis Bimaculatus

In the present study was to investigat the reproductive periodicity and spawning potential of the fresh water fish H.bimaclatus on the basis of morphometry histo anatomical method. Hemichromis bimaculatus is a biannual monsoon breeder. It has a major spawning season during October-November rnorth –east monsoon and the peak spawning in mid-November and a minor spawning season synchronizing and responding to the south-west monsoon in April-June. The females are significantly bigger than males at all seasons of the year and there is a preponderance of females only in a few months otherwise both the sexes are found in almost equal numbers.
