German zoologist Albrecht Carl Ludwig Gotthilf Günther (1830 -1914) began his association with the British Museum London in 1857 when he was charged with completing the museum's catalogues of amphibia reptiles and fish. In 1875 he became director of the zoology department of the Natural History Museum. Reptiles of British India is one of his main works.
