About The Book

Sylvie hates storms and isn't fond of rain either. Her parents used to fight the loudest during storms and then one day her dad just... left. And never came back. So when she hears a kitten crying in the middle of a rain storm the last thing she wants to do is leave her apartment. But the cries start getting weaker and before she knows it she's out in the weather. Soaked to the skin she realizes the kitten is stuck in a storm drain. And the water is rising. So she makes a desperate phone call to someone she hopes can help. But she calls the wrong number and leaves a desperate voicemail to a stranger.

Hello? Please... help me... Her voice catches uncertain if Kevin will get this in time. But the kitten's life depends on her pushing through this moment of awkwardness. There's a kitten trapped in a storm drain on Maple Street near the corner of 4th Avenue by the old bookstore.

She pauses listening to the rush of water and her own ragged breathing.

The water's rising and I can't get the drain cover off by myself. The kitten is stuck on a piece of metal sticking out from the side but it can't hold on much longer. Please Kevin... She swallows hard. I'm wearing an olive green raincoat. You can't miss me. I'm the only one crazy enough to be out in this storm.

Jacob is a mechanic who owns his own shop. It's almost midnight and he's elbow deep in a car he's trying to finish up. Then his phone rings and a voicemail is left. His first thought after hearing the message is Not my circus not my monkeys. But the desperation in the woman's voice keeps bothering him. And before he quite knows it he's on his way to help.
