ABOUT THE BOOK Research has become an important aspect of human activity. It is through research that knowledge grows and develops ultimately leading to the extension of the boundaries of knowledge and scholarship. Research in library and information science (L&IS) has an important role to play in finding solution to problems faced by librarians/ information officers/ documentalists. This book is addressed to those who intend to conduct research in L&IS. It has been designed to enable them to gain proper understanding of research methods techniques and instruments. An attempt has been made to make this work readable. The basic concepts have been explained with examples from library settings. This is a revised edition. A separate chapter on ‘Validity and Reliability’ has been added. In addition more information has been incorporated on scientific observation hypotheses ethics and measurement. Two questionnairs on ‘Computerization of Libraries’ and ‘Users’ Survey of Delhi Public Library’ have been added in this edition. ABOUT THE AUTHOR Professor Krishan Kumar retired as Head Department of Library and Information Science University of Delhi. He was Professor in the Department from 1984 to 1998. He is Past-President Indian Library Association and Past-President Indian Association of Teachers of Library and Information Science. He has served as member Scientific Advisory Board International Society for Knowledge Organisation and also Chairman of its Indian Chapter; Secretary International Conference on Ranganathan’s Philosophy held in 1985 in New Delhi; Convener UGC Panel on Library Science 1985-87; Editor Library Herald 1981-2002. He has written 17 books.
