Response Of Celosia (Celosia A. L.) To Nitrogen Sowing And Seed Rate

About The Book

The research was conducted during 2013 raining season at Bayero University Research Farm Kano and Zakirai Gabasawa Local Government Kano State. The experiment was to study the response of Celosia (Celosia argentea L) to nitrogen fertilization sowing methods and seed rate in Sudan Savanna of Nigeria. The treatments consisted of four levels of nitrogen (0 50 100 and 150 kg N ha-1) three sowing methods (Broadcasting Drilling and Dibbling) and two seed rate (Low and High). The treatments were laid out using Split Plot Design and replicated three times. The results showed that application of nitrogen fertilizer at the rate of 150 kg N ha-1 significantly increased plant height number of branches leaf fresh weight one thousand seed weight and grain yield at both locations. Dibbling proved to be superior to other sowing methods. Furthermore the results showed that low seed rate plots out yielded and recorded superior number of branches leaf fresh and dry weights one thousand seeds weight panicle and seed weights at both locations. Significant interactions positive correlations and regression analysis were observed and recommendations drawn conclusively.
