English

About The Book

The seed of Jackfruit is firm and waxy oval oblong or oblong ellipsoid in shape. Each seed is 2-4 x 1-2 cm in size and 2.5-14 g in weight with a coriaceous testa. Many flowers on the inflorescence do not produce seeds; normally there are 100-500 seeds in each fruit syncarp. Seed propagation is practiced in most jackfruit growing countries. The viability of jackfruit seeds lost very quickly. Even one or two weeks delay in planting will lead to poor germination. Jackfruit seeds are considered being recalcitrant and cannot survive more than few days or weeks in storage at ambient temperature.
