Response of Spine Gourd (momordica dioica Roxb.) To Micropropogation

About The Book

The present studies were carried out on four different genotypes of Spine Gourd (Momordica dioica Roxb.) with a view to standardized a reliable procedure for shoot and root initiation on plants from established cultures. The cultures were initiated by using node explants of genotypes R1P17 R2P5 R9P7 and R11P5 and different plant tissue culture mediums composed of MS-medium supplement with combination BAP IBA and NAA. The results for shoot and root initiation revealed that none of the explants was able to induce shoot and root on MS medium without hormones but the explants of all genotypes were cent per cent survived on MS medium supplemented with combination of BAP and NAA. The shoots induced from node explants were light green in colour. Shoot initiation and shoot proliferation were greatly affected by the genotypes medium combinations and their interactions. Based on interaction effect 1.0 mg/l BAP + 0.2 mg/l NAA medium for genotype R1P17 initiated early shoot and genotype R11P5 produced more number of shoots. In the shoot culture shoot elongation and internodes derived from node explants of all the four genotypes of spine gourd was tested for their response on MS medium
