Revenge in the feminine

This is a comparative reading of two works that are so far apart in space and time( Seneca'sMédée and Mariama Ba's Un chant écarlate ).Two women mothers faithful companions loving and devoted to their spouses find themselves betrayed by their beloved. Medea even goes so far as to kill for her lover Jason who nevertheless prefers her to another. As for Mireille all her efforts - abandoning her family her country her culture - will not prevent her husband Ousmane from secretly marrying someone else. These deeply wounded women will take revenge beyond the height of their affront; their fury will drive them to commit acts of icy horror. In their murderous madness they will hideously attack their own children.
