Review of the debates on the Multifunctionality of Agriculture

The recognition of the multifunctional character of agriculture is one of the themes that has most attracted the attention of scientists and politicians as a result of the increased consideration of environmental aspects in the production process and a change in society''s expectations. Indeed the Multifunctionality of agriculture has been put on the agenda of many national and international conferences. It has been the subject of many debates between international institutions countries within these institutions but also between authors in many fields of research. However these debates are present in many documents but most often in a disparate way. Indeed it is rare to find a paper that addresses more than one debate related to this notion of multifunctionality of agriculture. In this paper we propose to review all the debates on multifunctionality and to select the main ones.
