In no state in the Union perhaps are there so many descendants ofRevolutionary soldiers in proportion to population as in Kentucky. Nearly allof the original male settlers of the State saw service in the Revolutionary War.Contains a Roll of the Officers Non-Commissioned Officers and Privates ofthe Virginia Line in the Revolutionary Army who received Land Bounties fromthe State of Virginia. The lands were located principally in the states ofKentucky Indiana and Ohio. The list is broken down by rank and shows howmuch land each rank usually received.There is a list of Officers Non-Commissioned Officers and Privates ofThe Illinois Regiment who under the command of General George RogersClark achieved the Conquest of the Northeast from which the states of OhioIndiana Illinois Michigan and Wisconsin were formed. A list of OfficersSailors and Marines of the Virginia Navy in the American Revolution is alsoincluded.The author arranged and edited a list of Kentucky citizens who weregranted Revolutionary pensions up to the year 1835 as reported that year by theSecretary of War. Some names but not many (mostly widows) were added tothe list subsequent to 1835. The list of Kentucky pensioners is arranged bycounty and gives the county were they lived their rank or grade the state theyserved in the character of their service - whether Continental state militiaetc. the act under which they were beneficiaries the date they were placed onthe rolls the date the pensions began the amount of their annual pensions andtheir ages.This book also contains a list of the number of pensioners in eachKentucky county and gives a short biographical sketch of the person for whomthe county was named. There are also charts showing the number of pensionersfurnished by the original 13 colonies and the number of pensioners at certainseveral ages a well as an alphabetical index to pensions with reference tocounties.
