Reyyan's Penance

Reyyan is just eleven when the Soviets torture and execute his beloved elder brother in front of him and his mother. Devastated by the loss of her firstborn she too gives up life moments later leaving Reyyan an orphan. After the Soviets withdraw from his Afghan village Reyyan's faith in goodness unravels forcing him to fend for himself and in so doing caring little for others. Eight months later Reyyan is adopted by his wealthy Afghan-American aunt who is intent on protecting her sister's last memory. Under lax supervision and in response to his loss Reyyan rebels into a playboy who selfishly indulges his carnal desires. As he attempts to escape from a subconscious calling to mend his ways only time will tell if God will be merciful to Reyyan or if he will be crushed by his personal demons.
