Risk factors for fetal growth retardation

About The Book

In recent years the problem of fetal growth retardation syndrome has become increasingly relevant. In the 20th century it was shown that FGR is registered in 10-15% of full-term newborns and in every 4th baby born prematurely but recently there has been an increasing trend in the frequency of this pathology. According to the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) worldwide 15.5% (>20 million infants) of births are low birth weight (<2500 g) and the prevalence of low birth weight babies in developing countries is twice as high (16.5%) as in developed countries (7%). The vast majority (95%) of low birth weight babies are born in developing countries.
