Because of its impact on infant morbidity and mortality as well as its implications for adult health low birth weight is a major public health problem in the DRC. This study aims to determine the risk factors for low birth weight in Kamina. It is a case-control study nested within a cross-sectional study that included live and non-living births registered at HGR/Kamina from December 2022 to July 2023. Results: Risk factors for low birth weight were unwanted pregnancy (ORa=32.736; IC95%= [3.361-318.829]; pa=0.003) hospitalization during pregnancy (ORa=179.877; IC95%= [10.354-10.354]; pa=0.00) and passive smoking by the mother during pregnancy (ORa=35.869; IC95%= [2.807-458.398]; pa=0.006).This study has therefore shown that in addition to physiological factors that cannot be modified certain important factors remain accessible. Well-targeted and coordinated IEC actions on the various modifiable risk factors mentioned above are essential.
