ROLE OF ENDOSCOPY IN ORAL AND MAXILLOFACIAL SURGERY

Endoscopic surgery or minimally invasive surgery has found wide acceptance in many surgical specialties and in many cases has become the standard of care. Many believe endoscopy to be a modern invention and instrumental concept developed within the last hundred years or so. Endoscopy is an “inspection of body organs or cavities by means of an endoscope which is device consisting of a tube and optical system”.In maxillofacial surgery our ability to see clearly the surgical field opened an entirely new world of exploration as conditions that were once almost impossible to control and whose outcome was uncertain can be now predictably managed by modern technologies and inventions like endoscopy.
