Role of Pastoral care and counselling in catholic sponsored schools

In a school there are rules to be followed and anyone who goes against such rules is punished.despite the punishment indiscipline is rampant has guidance and counselling failed? or is it the society? or is it the church as a sponsor of these schools? but this study seeks to contradict that punishment corrects behaviour. If it corrects it is only for a short time and it is because of the fear instilled to the students. The author suggests that behaviour is taught just like how we teach a child to readswimwrite among other things.I have suggested a Positive Behaviour Intervention and support systems (PBIS) towards formation of the positive behaviour not only to a particular student but also to the whole schoolas a proactive positive approach whose effects are long term Following the call of Vatican 11 document Gravissimum Educationis which calls the catholic schools to adapt psychological methods which can help in the holistic formation of the students. The provision of the pastoral care and counselling by the priest in the team of teachers and the community can help the children in the present and in the future towards becoming good citizens.
