About The Book

Schizophrenia is a chronic severe mental illness. The disease characterized by disturbed form and content of thoughts affects approximately 1% of the population. A goal of the current investigation was to alleviate the adverse effects of neuroleptics on motor behavior. The results of study indicates that serotonergic system and particularly 5-HT-1A and 5-HT-2A/2C receptors may be involved in the treatment of EPS induced by typical neuroleptics. It is suggested that serotonergic compounds with antidepressant activity may be of use for extending therapeutics in schizophrenia. The findings may help to develop antipsychotic agents with an improved therapeutic and smaller side effect profile.
